Transportation

THE SAFEST RIDE TO SCHOOL IS ON A BIG YELLOW BUS

MILLIS PUBLIC SCHOOLS SCHOOL BUS TRANSPORTATION 2016-2017

The state requires school districts to provide transportation to and from school only for those students in grades K-6 who live more than 2.0 miles from school. No transportation is mandated for any students in grades 7-12. Millis will be using the state requirements for 2016-2017 and the fees will remain unchanged for the upcoming year. For those students who are not eligible for free transportation, Millis provides a Fee Bussing Program for the convenience of parents. We encourage all families to have their children ride the bus to alleviate parking and traffic problems and to be environmentally conscious.

All students who will be participating in the Millis transportation program for the 2016-2017 school year, including kindergarten students, must be registered by June 10, 2016. Students who are eligible for free transportation (those in grades K-6 who live more than 2.0 miles from school) should register utilizing the pink registration form. Students who will be participating in the Fee Bussing Program should register utilizing the green registration form and submit the appropriate depositPLEASE NOTE: IF PAID IN FULL BY JUNE 30, 2016, THERE WILL BE A 10% DISCOUNT OF BUSSING FEES.

Determining the Distance from School

The distance from school is measured by the shortest traveled route from the homeowner’s driveway via a public street to the first door of the school attended.

Fee Bussing Program

The fees charged cover only a portion of the actual cost of bussing with the school district and town providing additional funds. People wishing to participate in this program must return the green registration form along with a check for 50% of the cost of round trip transportation by June 10, 2016. The remainder of the payment is due by August 5, 2016. However, if you pay in full by June 30, 2016, the 10% discount applies.

Individual bills will not be sent for the balance. Bus passes will be issued only after all fees are received.

For those interested in one-way transportation only, please note that this option will be available on a space available, first-come, first-served basis. People wishing to participate in this program must return the green registration form along with a check for 50% of the cost of the one-way transportation.

Registration can be accomplished by returning the appropriate form, fully completed, to Ms. MaryJane Driscoll, Transportation Director, Millis Public Schools, 245 Plain Street, Millis, and MA 02054. After that date, students for whom transportation is not mandated by the state will be added to the routes only if space is available on the appropriate route.
